Petrified Wood | Meaning, Healing Properties & Uses

Posted by Camika DuBose on

Petrified wood is a type of fossilized wood that is formed through a process called petrification. This process occurs when a tree is buried in the environment. The lack of oxygen causes the wood to slowly decay over thousands of years. As it decays, the organic material is replaced by minerals (quartz, iron, manganese, etc.) from the surrounding earth. What makes this process truly remarkable is that the minerals take on the original form of the wood. The only visible difference is in color, as determined by the mineral inclusions.

Petrified Wood Healing Properties

Just like our ever-growing earth, petrified wood fosters spiritual growth. It will revitalize you, giving you a new outlook on life. This crystal allows you to connect with something greater than yourself. You will discover what gives your life purpose and how to best fulfill it.

Petrified wood aligns with your root chakra, allowing you to feel grounded and stable in your life. This crystal offers a sense of self-security and gives you confidence in who you are. It reminds you to be patient with yourself and others. Everything that’s meant to happen will do so in divine timing. You will find solace in the fact that you trust yourself and your environment.

How to Use Petrified Wood

There are several ways you can use petrified wood. This earthy crystal can be used to spruce up your home decor. You can display a petrified wood slab on a rustic kitchen table or place a pink petrified wood freeform on your bookshelf for a feminine touch. No matter how you incorporate petrified wood into your space, you’ll be able to admire its beauty while benefiting from its healing properties. Another way you can use petrified wood is for self-reflection during meditation. This grounding crystal will allow you to see things for what they are. Hold a piece of petrified wood in your hand while you meditate to achieve a deeper understanding of yourself.

How to Cleanse Petrified Wood

Cleansing petrified wood will remove stagnant energy so you can get the most out of its healing properties. This can be done by holding your crystal under running water, leaving it outside during a full moon, or using the smoke of cleansing herbs. Use your intuition to guide you as you cleanse your petrified wood crystal.

How to Tell If Petrified Wood Is Fake

Petrified wood is not commonly faked, but you should always be mindful of a crystal’s authenticity when shopping. Authentic petrified wood should resemble real wood. A petrified wood slice should have visible growth rings, and other pieces may look like tree bark. The color of this crystal is hardly uniform. Instead, you should see various colors and shades that appear natural.

Another sign to look out for when determining if your petrified wood is fake is its weight. As with most crystals, petrified wood is heavier than it looks due to its composition. If you come across a piece of petrified wood that seems oddly light, it may be made of glass or some other material. The best way to avoid buying fake petrified wood is to shop with a trustworthy business

 Petrified Wood Crystal Pairings

Pairing petrified wood with other crystals can complement its energy and enhance its healing properties. To aid in spiritual growth, try pairing petrified wood with flower agate. This combination will allow you to break free from old habits and transform into the person you want to be. Additionally, you can pair petrified wood with polychrome jasper to heighten your self-awareness. These two crystals will keep you grounded and feeling in tune with yourself.

Conclusion

Petrified wood is not as popular as other crystals, but there are many reasons why I love it. To start with, the process of petrification is fascinating. It occurs over thousands of years, and the conditions have to be just right. The next reason why I love petrified wood is because of its healing properties. It’s one of the most grounding crystals out there, making it amazing to use during meditation. Lastly, petrified wood comes in my favorite color — pink! Pink petrified wood is difficult to source, but I was able to get some stunning pieces to offer to you all. I don’t come across pieces like these often, so find the perfect one to add to your collection now!
